There’s no denying it. This is a VERY hot topic right now. You want proof, just mosey on over to the Warrior Forum and look at all the posts, WSO’s, etc.

But you know what? There’s a good reason this is a hot topic right now…

Many off line businesses have been hit by “slow” times and are actively looking for ways to increase business. So opportunity knocks.

My partner Jim and I have been in this arena now for more than a year and we have been seeing first hand how much we have been able to help our own clients. And with our system, we launched Easy Local SEO to help OTHER people market similar services to businesses all over the U.S. and Canada.

I have discovered though, that many people who want to market in this arena have one fatal short coming. They really don’t have any idea how to approach potential clients and get them to listen to what they have to say. My partner and I had this same issue when starting out. Jim used to drive around visiting local businesses for a few hours every day – saying hello, dropping off fliers and business cards, etc. And the people he spoke to were always nice.

However, we made exactly ZERO sales doing this. I learned the hard way that they simply saw us as nothing more than another salesman hawking some product or service. Not what they wanted to deal with, and who can blame them? They have a business to run.

There are a lot of ways to properly approach prospects, get them to listen and perhaps hire your services, but I am going to talk about just 2 things here…there’s a lot more to this, but I don’t want this post to be too incredibly long :)

  • “You’re an internet guy??

The first thing you need to do is very simple. Don’t bill yourself as an “internet marketer”. For one thing you don’t do yourself any favors. If you talk to business owners in a casual environment and ask what they think about internet marketing, many won’t really even understand exactly what that is… and many others think “just some other fly-by-night company selling me a bill of goods about SEO or something”.

Bottom line is, you are looking to help a business increase their revenue. And you are educating them about the power of advertising on the internet. And giving them new ideas on how to get more people to look at their products and services.

In other words, you are a Business Consultant.

Say that to yourself until it is second nature. Because (if you are doing this right) that’s exactly what you are. You just happen to specialize in the many ways the internet can help.

  • Show them how they can do it themselves!

Business owners like nothing better than to find other ways to increase their revenue while saving money at the same time. Well, who doesn’t?

So, why not show them how they can use the internet themselves? Show them the power of capturing emails, proper S.E.M., a well-optimized website, the power of social media…you get the idea.

What I am talking about are workshops. Very simple.

Hold a workshop in the area you market to. It’s easy to get the word out (how about the Chamber of Commerce, or local paper – even Craig’s List). And you can actually make money holding them. But there’s an even bigger benefit…

Structure a workshop environment, schedule it for 6 – 8 hours on a Saturday. Charge for attending (anywhere from $97 to $997 – or more if the market will bear it). You need to at LEAST cover the cost of the workshop – most likely for a room at a local hotel to hold the workshop in, perhaps coffee and doughnuts…that kind of thing.

Understand the power here…you will now have business owners coming to you. You are now NOT a sale person, but a potential solution to a problem. They will be MUCH more willing to listen.

The workshop itself MUST be good stuff. Real usable, actionable things these people can do. Focus on just a few things they can do. You want them to have their “light bulb moment”, seeing the potential of what you’re teaching them. But at the same time, you want them to understand just how much time and effort it will take if they take it on themselves.

That’s where the “selling without selling” takes place. They will start asking YOU if you can do this for them. Which of course, you can.

Once you break it down for them in terms they can understand (cost benefits, etc.) the will see that it is simply another advertising avenue. Something they already spend money on – and something they can also write off at the end of the year.

All of this can lead to new clients. Many of them. Hiring you to do everything from website design (or redesign) to SEO to reputation management to social media marketing, to customer database management – and much more.

So now I hear you saying – “A workshop? I never held one of those. I have no content, etc. for this. What do I do?”

Man I hear that. I said the same thing over a year ago when this idea was first presented to me. The answer can only be one of two things: 1) Create the content or 2) BUY the content.

I did number two. And I can tell you it’s the best thing I could have done. Who has the time to write up all this content for the business owners to learn from and keep after the workshop is over?

  • The answer to my prayers…

I met Rachel Rofe a couple of years ago at a small marketing lunch. Very nice person and also very talented and a keen marketing mind. While doing some research on line for this niche, I cam across a package she and her partner, Jaime Mintun, put out that is the answer to my prayers…

Their package is everything you need to hold a workshop for off line businesses. Everything from the marketing and sales materials to get the business owners to attend, to a slide presentation, a workbook for the attendees – and so much more.

To me, that beats cold-calling any day!

Google Ranking has continually confused large numbers of users and website SEO specialists alike over the years. Page Ranking and Google “Index” Ranking while appearing similar they are completely different overall!

I am going to attempt to reduce this down to laymen’s terms and provide some clarity on this, often times, misrepresented issue. Most everyone I encounter asks for and seeks a number one page ranking on the Google results page. They don’t typically care how it happens they just know they want it! Big problems can arise with this uneducated approach because Google Index Ranking and Page Ranking are two very different things.

Google Index Ranking is what they actually seek because Google Page Rank is a means in which to evaluate the overall quality and usefulness of any given website. So when people tell me they want a high Google Page Rank

I immediately answer… “Do You Want to be Found on Page One of the Google Search Results as Well”?

As they look at me with complete confusion and in some cases anger and outright frustration I begin to explain the difference. Many times I will gain someone’s confidence and other times they think I am yanking their chain a bit. Either way… I know the seeds have been planted for a better understanding of what they need and not necessarily what they think they need or continually seek.

This opens the door to what I call “Feeding the Monster and Oiling the Engines”. It’s not just one thing that gets you to the top of Page One on the Google Search Engine Results page, it’s doing a great many things all of which need to be choreographed correctly around key search terms and phrases month in and month out over and over again.

The following is a minimum level of search engine food that must be fed to the monster every month to ensure the engines are oiled and run smoothly for your website to be found.

• Generating fresh original content

• Creating a press release

• Making a video

• Establishing quality backlinks

• Submitting to directory listing sites

• Participating in social marketing (if applicable)

This is where utilizing a Website Promotion Outsourcing company can assist you in your quest for a top spot in the Google search results. I am simply stating the facts when it comes to “effectively” getting the job done and what must be done every month to climb to a top Google page ranking and moreover stay there once you’ve arrived.

Let’s keep that simple with quick little Question & Answer series below called “As the Search Engines See My Website.”

  • Q – What is your website linking structure and who is pointing to you. A – quality back links
  • Q – Where and how do you re-direct visitors from your website, A – outbound links
  • Q – Are you supporting RSS feeds of any kind and what is the in/out function. A – “feed burner” data
  • Q – Is your landing page setup properly and ultimately useful. A – website SEO & authority
  • Q – How many people are recommending your site and why. A – social marketing activity
  • Q – What is your website providing & saying to the general public. A – fresh original content

Together this all becomes your personalized “website identity” to the major search engines! It’s no big mystery or a game that you can’t win. In fact, it’s a game very much worth playing! Once the initial time investment is made to complete your setup properly you are instantly in the game and moving towards a page one Google ranking!

Determining exactly what constitutes winning the game often varies greatly based on what YOUR website purpose truly is! Do You Really Even Know?

Let’s take a look at that for a moment. You have just invested both your valuable time and hard earned money into your NEW website promotion campaign; however, have you done it properly? In laymen’s terms the definition of “immersion” is: to become fully aware or dive in to a level of much greater understanding.

Simply put, you need to specifically identify your ultimate goal prior to accomplishing it. This is where so many people fail or fall short in “the game” you need to play. How do I know what works and where do I start is an often asked question about now. Well, it’s simple; start spying on those that have succeeded before you! Investigate your competition and find out what they are doing:

  • Analyze what’s working in your sector or niche on the Internet

I am forever being asked “Can you please just help me get started and I will do the rest”. I now have only one answer for this question and it goes like this:

“You will never truly get started unless you understand what the rest really is! Immerse yourself with me or another experienced website promotion expert for 90 days and your business success becomes the rest!”

By planning the proper route to YOUR ultimate goal with the assistance of professionals YOUR purpose remains on point and clearly attainable. By jumping in without the plan this entire process becomes quite unmanageable. I see as many people fail as succeed because they never really get started. Your initial time is all that is required to make your Internet Exposure Dream, for your business become a reality! It’s all auto pilot after that and you can leave the driving to us!

Be smart, do this right and you’ll be building on a winning model that continually becomes an evolution to personalized website perfection. No matter how many times things change along the way or how big your business grows you can always adapt effectively! Are you still catching fish one at a time? I hope not.

Gone are the days where you sit by the edge of the lake with a fishing pole hoping something will bite. Don’t do that! There are better, more powerful ways of doing things today.

Use a net instead! Then, go to a spot where the fish are plenty and they’re jumping up at you!

One of the fastest ways of building your customer base is to seek out mutually beneficial joint ventures.

The key words here are “mutually beneficial”. Find marketers and business owners who already have large “responsive” mailing lists and make them an offer they can’t refuse! Just make sure your offer benefits them as well – in a big way.

Many people have tried using this strategy. Most have failed miserably. I’ll tell you why.

The problem with most people is that they are only focused on what they can get out of the deal. You’ll never get it if that’s what your focus is on.

When you’re working on forming joint ventures, focus on the other party and ask yourself “What do they need? What can I offer them that would be of value to them?”

Sure, you can just offer the other person a cut of the profits if they agree to endorse your product to their list. But that’s what everybody does. And these days, that’s not enticing enough. How is your offer unique?

Here’s a better way of doing it…

What if you were to create a product specifically for one marketer. Offer them exclusive rights to distribute the product as they see fit.

You don’t have to create a hundred page masterpiece. It’s not the number of pages… it’s the content! You can have a 5 page report that contains solid gold. And you can have a 100-page mammoth filled with garbage.

Want to do one better?

Offer to help the other party with something first. Anything – without bringing up your joint venture offer. Then, when you’ve created some value for them, you can ask them to help you out with something. (Say a joint venture, perhaps?)

Do you see how this strategy differs from what most people try to do out there?

Heck, I’ve even seen people requesting joint ventures by just sending a one-line email note to the other person which reads, “Want to promote my product? Here’s my link…”

Do they really expect the other person to even respond to that note? It just doesn’t work!

Be unique. Create value for them. Make it worth their while. Make them an offer they can’t refuse!

Keep in mind that…although the above strategy increases your chances of striking a deal astronomically, not everyone will say “yes” to your offer.

I’ve approached some people who just had too much on their plate to begin with and just weren’t able to work with me. It happens.

Don’t take it personally.

The trick is to not quit after the first “no”.

Forming powerful, mutually beneficial alliances with successful marketers is the best strategy available to us. And it is well worth your time to continue pursuing joint ventures until you strike a deal or two. But, you don’t have to stop there either. Get as many as you can.

Remember, you are not just seeking a one-time deal here either. You’re seeking an alliance. Great ongoing business deals and friendships can be formed this way.
